Gather Place Lecture: Selma Burke – Bucks County Artist and Educator

This lecture explores the extraordinary life and legacy of Selma Hortense Burke (1900–1995), a pioneering sculptor, painter, and educator whose 46-year residency in Bucks County shaped her artistic and civic impact. Best known for sculpture, Burke created influential portraits of African American leaders and completed the bronze Four Freedoms plaque of President Franklin D. Roosevelt—work central to the design of the U.S. dime.
