Freedom Along the Delaware: Yardley’s Underground Railroad Walking Tour

August 1 @ 8:00 am – 9:30 am
Step into history on this one-hour guided walking tour beginning at the historic AME Church of Yardley, home of Gather Place. Explore the Delaware Canal towpath along lock #5 and discover documented and speculated Underground Railroad sites, stories of freedom seekers and abolitionists, the Yardley Ferry, Aaron LaRue General Store, and the historic “Boatyard Lot.” The tour also honors Yardley’s African American heritage, including the enduring legacy of the Derry family—Yardley Borough’s oldest known Black family lineage including Mr. Edward E. Robinson, Yardley Borough first African American Mayor and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s very first African American Mayor! We conclude the tour back at Gather Place with a complimentary light breakfast bite and beverages!
