The Journey of Arugboa -a moving performance by Doreen Stratton

This featured lecture explores the journey of Arugbo, an enslaved young woman in Galveston, Texas, and her experience of the historic arrival of Juneteenth in June 1865—the moment the news of freedom finally reached the enslaved people of Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
